Vacation Entitlement Misprint in the Collective Agreement
Article 14.02.01 has a misprint for anyone between 10 and 24 years of company service. Your entitlement is 15 working days / 120 hours. Any layoff or LOA will affect your company service, and the hourly entitlement is reduced by half for part-time employees.
The correction is indicated below:
Years of Service Entitlement
1 through 4 years 10 Working days / 80 hours
5 through 9 years 15 working days / 120 hours
10 through 24 years 20 working days / 160 hours
25 years and over 25 working days / 200 hours
10 Paid Sick Days for Federally Regulated Employees
The federal government has been consulting on amendments to the Canada Labour Code (CLC) related to sick leave. Bill C-3, passed in December 2021, amends the CLC to provide for up to ten paid sick days per year. The bill is now law, but the paid sick leave provision is not yet in effect, and we are waiting to find out exactly how it will be implemented. The government has introduced further amendments through Bill C-19, which became law on June 23, 2022.
Unifor national office has been putting pressure on the federal government to issue a clear timetable for the implementation of paid sick days. We will continue to watch for any updates, and to keep you informed.

Here is a news release on July 15, 2022 from the Government of Canada:
National Truth and Reconciliation Day
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This statutory holiday was added to the federal labour code after the ratification of our Collective Agreement in March of 2020, and therefore it is not included in Article 13 (Statutory Holidays). This means it is not part of the GHO program, even though September 30 is a statutory holiday for all members (GHO or non-GHO). If you have any questions, please contact your district Union office.
Meetings in Vancouver
Last week I had the opportunity to attend meetings in District 301 (YVR-ARPT). It was productive and I had the opportunity to work with Pacific Bargaining Committee member Soppo Gomez-Gnali and District Chair Kathy W. While I focus all my time and attention on representing the Central Region, it is important to work closely with elected officials in other regions and to work together on issues that are important to all of us across the country. I also enjoyed meeting our members in YVR and look forward to meeting members from all bases and regions in future visits. Thank you YVR for your warm hospitality!
In closing, I would like to remind everyone to take your breaks, one task at a time, one call at a time, one wheelchair at a time and report any scope violations you witness to your Union office promptly.

This newsletter is not intended to communicate any views, positions or opinions of duly elected officials at the Unifor National, Local 2002, or of the Bargaining Committee. This is simply a summary of things that have crossed my desk as the representative for Central Region, which I believe the membership in the Central Region may find to be relevant
